N2 - A homogeneous mixture of propane, air and nitrogen as diluent gas was burned in the cylinder of the spark-ignition engine, and the gas composition in the cylinder during the exhaust stroke was investigated. The effects of pressure and temperature on the quenching distance were expressed by an empirical equation. Quenching distances at combustion end were calculated, and the change in mass fraction of total hydrocarbons versus the mixture composition was estimated.
