This article summarizes some of the results obtained from “Next-generation Social Infrastructure Robot On-site Verification,” performed jointly by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. We would like to express our gratitude to all committee members for their advice regarding this verification, and all members of the Regional Development Bureau for their cooperation in the on-site verification. In particular, we are deeply grateful to the committee members of the “Tunnel Maintenance and Management Committee (Committee Chief: Kazuo Nishimura, Professor emeritus of Tokyo Metropolitan University)” for their thorough guidance, ranging from the method for on-site verification to evaluation of the results.

N2 - We proposes methods for using robots in the periodic inspection of road tunnels and associated evaluation methods. The main purpose of using a robot is to reduce working hours spent on the close visual inspection which is currently conducted by humans. For this purpose, the report proposes two methods: a robot conducting measurement after inspection work by humans (Use Case 1), and a robot conducting measurement before inspection work by humans (Use Case 2). To verify the effects of these methods, we conducted “on-site verification” at the actual inspection site and “elemental verification” that uses some specimens.
