Abstract

We have performed X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments at Ge K-edge in 5f ferromagnetic superconductor UGe2(TC=52K). Ge K-edge XMCD spectrum (1s→4p) of UGe2 reflects the magnetic response of the conduction electron states. The Ge K-edge XMCD spectrum shows a main negative peak near the edge and a small positive one at 7 eV above the edge. The amplitude of this spectrum is very large in spite of being at ligand sites. The strong spin-orbit interaction at the uranium site plays an important role in this phenomenon.
