abstract = "A series of the unconfined compression tests on unsaturated state compacted silty sands were carried out under the constant water content. The shear strength, the pore water pressure and the volume change of the soils during the shear process were measured under the undrained condition. The shear strength and deformation behaviors could be observed based on sample densities. These results were compared with that of the testing performed under the confining pressure. The relationship between the peak and the post peak strength states, and the failure line was discussed with the suction stress.",
