We reviewed 33 eyes in 23 patients with rheumatoid arthritis regarding aqueous inflammation after cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation. No eye developed major surgical complications, suggesting that intraocular lens implantation is basically a safe procedure for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. At one month after surgery, 11 patients still showed +1 aqueous cells. They had significantly higher titers of rheumatoid factor than the other 12 patients with no aqueous cells.
