T1 - Bake hardenability of cold rolled Ti-bearing extra low carbon steel sheets sheets

N2 - The bake hardenability (BH) can be given to a Ti-bearing extra low carbon steel through the control of compounds of Ti, C and S. With an usual amount of S and Mn of 0.010 to approximately 0.015 and 0.10 to approximately 0.25 mass% respectively, Ti-compound formed in the hot rolled steel sheets is Ti4C2S2. Reducing S content or increasing Mn content, Ti-compound mainly consists of TiC. It was found that the solubility temperature of Ti4C2S2 was higher than that of TiC and in an usual continuous annealing condition at a temperature from 973 to 1123K and annealing time of less than 2 minutes, Ti4C2S2 does not dissolved and consequently no carbon in solution exists while TiC dissolves at a high annealing temperature. Applying this result, a controlled amount of BH property is given to Ti-bearing extra low carbon steel choosing adequate chemical composition and annealing condition.
