N2 - The understanding of ischemia and reperfusion injury grows, but the search for the critical early regulators of the ischemia and reperfusion injury process remains difficult. The current therapies to attenuate ischemia and reperfusion injury are overwhelming, but the subtleties of the injury and of human medicine prevent immediate clinical implementation. Cytokineand chemokine-targeted therapies to circumvent ischemia and reperfusion injury in transplanted organs hold promise for the future.
