N2 - The genus Dianthovirus belongs to the family Tombusviridae, members of which have single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genomes and icosahedral virions approximately 35 nm in diameter. Of the 16 genera in the family, only the dianthoviruses have bipartite genomes. Their two genomic RNAs exploit different strategies to regulate their translation, transcription, replication, packaging, and cell-to-cell movement during infection. In this article, we summarize our current understanding of the molecular biology of dianthoviruses.
