This paper reports a relationship between emotional expressions and consensus building in virtual communication. Concretely, we focus on emotions before consensus-building. To investigate the relationship, we employ Barnga which is one of card games for experiments. In Barnga, players cannot use language, and they have not the same rule. In addition, Barnga does not progress without consensus building, that is, the players are required to build a consensus sharing one’s thought without language. Furthermore, we introduce an emotional panel which enables players to express emotional expressions in Barnga. The emotional panel have four variations which are happiness, anger, sadness and surprise. This paper conducts experiments with non-face-to-face condition which is similar to virtual communication. From the results, it is assumed that the anger expression is effective to build a consensus smoothly without forcing to change opinions of opponents in virtual communications.
