It is necessary to know the concentration field of fuel spray or jet because the combustion process strongly depends on it. Recently, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) measurement is often used to clarify two-dimensional concentration field. In this study, diacetyl was used as fluorescence tracer. At first, basic characteristics of fluorescence, measurement error and compensation method were discussed. Next, the PLIF measurement was applied to investigate the concentration distribution of a transient hydrogen jet. The concentration filed was found to be valuable judging from the results which agreed with the jet theory. Moreover, the concentration distribution of the transient jet can be measured even when the flame develops within the jet.
