Roof fall, roof caving, and rockburst events represent a serious hazard to miners working underground in deep coal mining. This article discusses the rockburst phenomena, consequences, and its prevention measures for deep mining. First a numerical model of manifold method is built based on the geological data such as joints, faults, and other discontinuities. Second a seismic monitoring system is set up to monitor the seismic events during mining process. By comparing the monitoring seismic activity data with the numerical simulation results, a correlation of the location of mining-induced seismic activity and the high stress concentration area of mine field is established. Finally the prevention methods of rock burst are proposed to mitigate or to avoid coal mine disasters.
