Persistence lengths (P₁) were measured for 4,4- and 6,6-ionenes (m,m-ionene) and 1,1-oxyethyleneionene (1,1-OEI) in methanol using small-angle X-ray scattering to characterize the local conformations in ionenes. Since the electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions are suppressed in methanol, P₁ in this solution may reflect the intrinsic chain stiffness of ionenes.
